The new METRONET Bayswater Station has opened to the public, with services resuming on the Midland and Airport lines.
The partial opening has seen the southern platforms open to commuters, who can now access the station via the entry building on either side of Coode Street — the platforms can be accessed through a lift, escalator and stairs.
Major works are continuing on the northern half of the station, which will service the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line.
The opening of the new station comes after the old station and Bayswater Bridge were demolished in April 2023.
The new Whatley Crescent extension road underneath the new station, and the upgraded shared path between Meltham and Bayswater Stations, have also opened.
The new road and shared paths will provide the community with upgraded links and access to the station and surrounding Bayswater businesses.
Once completed, the new Bayswater Station will become a key connection point for the Midland, Airport and new METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook lines.
It will feature four platforms, bicycle shelter and parking and 10 new retail spaces around the base of the station.
The METRONET new Bayswater Station will be the only station outside of the CBD to service three separate train lines.
WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the resuming of train services on the Midland and Airport lines as well as the Whatley Crescent extension opening for the first time marks a significant milestone for the METRONET New Bayswater Station project.
“The Bayswater community have been incredibly patient and understanding as we’ve carried out these works, and with services now resuming on the Midland and Airport lines, we’re really starting to see some of the positive changes that are being made.
“The Bayswater Station will be the biggest station outside of the CBD, becoming a key connection point for the Midland, Airport and new METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook lines.
“One of the more exciting elements is the 10 new retail spaces surrounding the base of the station which presents opportunities to activate this area, and we will be looking to work with the local community and businesses to fill those spaces,” said Saffioti.
The government will work with the local community and businesses to activate and utilise the new retail spaces.
Bus routes diverted while the station was being upgraded have now returned to their original alignment, including the CircleRoute (999, 998) and Route 48 bus services.
