Kingborough Council has given the green light to Tipalea Partners’ $45 million Spring Farm Village project in Kingston, Tasmania.
The approval marks a significant milestone for the next-generation retail hub, which aims to enhance everyday convenience shopping and boost local employment in the growing region.
The development, located opposite Bunnings on the Channel Highway, will deliver over 7,500 square metres of retail space to serve the burgeoning residential population from Huntingfield to Margate and Snug.
Kingston, one of Hobart’s fastest-growing regions, is expected to see a population increase of 7,000 people in the next decade.
Scott Spanton, CEO of Tipalea Partners, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating: “Spring Farm Village is set to redefine everyday convenience in Kingston, and we are eager to appoint a builder and get construction underway.”
The developer anticipates the community will be able to shop in the new centre by early 2026.
The retail hub has already secured 70 per cent of its leases, demonstrating strong demand in the area.
Spring Farm Village is designed to be the most technologically advanced and environmentally sustainable retail centre south of Hobart.
The development will feature a full solar array, EV charging stations, free Wi-Fi, cloud-based CCTV, and a building information dashboard.
Over 350 easily accessible car parks will be available, including dedicated bays for disability parking, parents with young children, and seniors.
The project is expected to create more than 1,100 employment opportunities, providing a significant boost to the local economy.
Franklin MP and Business, Industry and Resources Minister Eric Abetz welcomed the development, stating: “This development shows great confidence in Tasmania’s growth and is an excellent example of the private sector playing an essential role in meeting community needs.”
Spring Farm Village represents Tipalea Partners’ sixth development in Tasmania and its second retail centre in the state.
The company has a track record of successful neighbourhood retail centres across Australia, including projects in Queensland, New South Wales, and Tasmania.
As Kingston continues to grow, Spring Farm Village is poised to become a central hub for the community, offering a mix of retail, dining, and services that cater to the evolving needs of residents in this expanding region of Tasmania.
