A sod-turning ceremony has officially launched construction on apt.Meadowbank and Meadowbank Corner, a pioneering integrated build-to-rent, co-living, and retail precinct set to transform the Meadowbank peninsula in New South Wales.
The 7,773 sqm development at 1-20 Railway Road, designed by AJC Architects and developed by apt.Residential, aims to set a new benchmark for sustainable, connected urban living in Sydney’s inner northwest.
The mixed-use village will feature Meadowbank Corner, a curated retail hub anchored by a 2,500 sqm Coles supermarket, complemented by 15 specialty retailers offering fresh food, casual dining, and wellness services.
The residential component, apt.Meadowbank, will comprise 291 apartments across four buildings, designed for contemporary, flexible living with tech-enabled spaces, a landscaped central courtyard, resident lounge, and co-working areas.
Brian Mariotti, Director at AJC Architects, highlighted the project’s significance: “apt.Meadowbank represents a new era of urban living — where diverse housing options, sustainable design, and vibrant public spaces come together to create a true village atmosphere.
“Our approach to the design was to respect the local area with a thoughtful built form, high-quality interior design with a focus on community connectivity, ensuring that residents and visitors alike will benefit from a fully integrated precinct.”
The development’s prime location opposite Meadowbank Train Station and near bus stops and the Parramatta River ferry provides excellent connectivity to key areas including Sydney CBD, Macquarie Park, Parramatta CBD, and Sydney Olympic Park.
Educational institutions such as Meadowbank TAFE, Macquarie University, and numerous schools are also within easy reach.
Designed with community and sustainability in mind, apt.Meadowbank will offer a range of apartment sizes catering to diverse demographics.
The project features expansive shared spaces, including a central resident hub with co-working areas, media and games rooms, and bookable function spaces.
Rooftop terraces will provide additional communal areas with views over Parramatta River.
The architectural design complements Meadowbank’s evolving urban landscape, featuring four-storey masonry blocks with setbacks and sculptural rooftop forms.
A dynamic façade incorporating brick, stone, rendered masonry, metal cladding, and operable screens will allow residents to control privacy, shade, and natural ventilation.
Sustainability is a key focus of the development, with the project being fully electric and incorporating waste reduction strategies throughout its lifecycle.
The development is targeting above-benchmark Green Star, WELL, and WeIS ratings.
Built by Buildcorp, apt.Meadowbank is scheduled for completion by late 2026.
This innovative precinct marks a significant step in Meadowbank’s evolution into a highly connected, vibrant, and sustainable mixed-use hub, promising to enhance the quality of life for both residents and the wider community.
