Georgiou, in joint venture with BMD Group, has been awarded the $298.5 million Centenary Bridge Upgrade project for Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads.
Scope of work involves construction of a new three-lane northbound bridge, rehabilitation of the existing bridges to create southbound lanes and upgrade to pedestrian and cyclist facilities on this critical transport connection to Brisbane’s western suburbs.
The Centenary Bridge carries more than 85,000 vehicles a day and current traffic modelling shows that by 2036, around 152,000 vehicles per day will want to cross the bridge.
Chief Executive Officer Gary Georgiou said, “This is a complex structures project and our joint venture brings proven expertise and experience in working as an integrated team – something which is going to be crucial for the successful delivery of this project.”
The planning study for the Centenary Motorway Upgrade identified possible staged upgrades along the Centenary Motorway from Sumners Road, Darra, to Frederick Street, Toowong. These staged upgrades are aimed at meeting the region’s future transport needs and include options focused on safety, improving travel-time reliability, and new active transport opportunities for pedestrians and people who ride bikes.
Construction on the project, which will see 120 personnel at peak, is set to start in 2023 with an expected completion in four years.
The project will improve network efficiency and travel times, while increasing capacity and improving safety.
The Queensland Government has committed $132 million for design and construction. The Australian Government’s commitment of $112 million brings the total to $244 million.
Georgiou is currently delivering the $400 million Tonkin Gap Alliance Project and the $215 million Mitchell Freeway Extension Project with BMD Group in Western Australia.
