The new Coomera Hospital on the Gold Coast is a step closer to reality today after the Queensland Government awarded Multiplex Constructions the contract to deliver stage one of the $1.3 billion facility.
The new hospital will deliver 404 new beds, including surgical, medical, ambulatory, sub-acute and mental health inpatient beds to the community.
It will also provide emergency department treatment spaces and a satellite medical imaging department, alongside new operating theatres, endoscopy rooms, birthing suites, consult rooms, and mental health support services.
Speciality services will also be available at the new hospital including Intensive Care, Coronary Care and a Special Care Nursery.
These additions will provide residents with care closer to home and reduce travel time to the Gold Coast University Hospital and other major South-East Queensland hospitals.
As the Coomera Hospital population catchment is expected to almost double by 2036, the new Coomera Hospital masterplan will provide for further expansion of services to ensure the growing community’s needs continue to be met.
Preparatory works have already occurred to make the site safe, including demolition of site dwellings.
Early works for the new Coomera Hospital will begin later this year, with the project expected to be completed in late 2027.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services Shannon Fentiman said the project will be a gamechanger for the growing community, providing specialist services and world-class technology.
“This major milestone is yet another example of the Queensland Government’s commitment to delivering a world-class public health system for all Queenslanders.
“The new Coomera Hospital will make a significant difference to Gold Coast locals by bringing healthcare closer to home and taking the pressure off the Gold Coast University and Robina hospitals.”
The hospital joins several other health projects the government committed to deliver on the Gold Coast, part of the $2.1 billion health investment announced in the Budget.
Other projects include the Gold Coast university Hospital sub-acute expansion, Gold Coast Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit with 40 beds, Tugun Satellite Hospital and expansions to Robina Hospital that will deliver 134 new beds.
