In a significant milestone for emergency services in New South Wales, the Central Sydney Ambulance Station has officially opened.
Situated at the former site of the Coroner’s Court of NSW in Forest Lodge, this state-of-the-art facility is set to enhance emergency medical care in the heart of Sydney.
With 30 parking bays for ambulance vehicles and five bays for motorcycle rapid response units, the station is equipped to handle the demands of the bustling CBD.
A rapid roller door allows crews to deploy swiftly, while administrative, office areas and training rooms ensure operational efficiency.
The station also prioritises the wellbeing of emergency workers with amenities like a gym, showers, change rooms, and rest areas.
Rooftop solar panels and uninterrupted power supply batteries underscore the commitment to sustainability and reliability.
NSW Premier Chris Minns hailed the opening as a significant moment in the history of NSW Ambulance.
“Ambulance services in Sydney began in a borrowed police station at Railway Square in 1895. This new facility shows just how far ambulance services have come since then,” said Minns.
The NSW government has allocated $438.6 million to enhance NSW Ambulance’s services in regional and rural areas.
This includes recruiting 500 paramedics over four years and constructing three new helicopter bases.
Health Minister Ryan Park emphasised the station’s strategic importance, as he stated: “This new facility means our paramedics are in the best place to respond to any job, while having a facility with the capacity for the current and future growth needs for emergency ambulance services, not just in the CBD but throughout surrounding suburbs.”
NSW Ambulance Chief Executive Dr Dominic Morgan said: “Sydney is an international city that attracts millions of visitors from overseas and interstate each year, therefore having a large ambulance station right near the heart of the city will further optimise our responses within the CBD and surrounding suburbs.”
Kane Constructions carried out the construction of the Central Sydney Ambulance Station.
