Frankston Hospital’s $605 million redevelopment will be delivered by the Exemplar Health consortium after it was announced as the preferred bidder to enter into an exclusive negotiation with the Victorian government.
The consortium includes Capella Capital as sponsor, Lendlease Building Contractors as builder and Honeywell Limited and Compass Group Healthcare Hospitality Services as facilities and maintenance managers.
The redevelopment is being delivered as a public-private partnership, which involves bringing together a private consortium to design, construct, finance, and maintain the new facility for a period of 25 years.
Frankston Hospital will remain a public hospital, with all clinical healthcare services operated by Peninsula Health.
Victorian Health Building Authority chief executive Rob Fiske said: “The Frankston Hospital redevelopment will deliver a world-class facility for local families, doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers, and we’re doing everything we can to get construction underway as soon as possible.
“Following an extensive evaluation process, government will now negotiate solely with Exemplar Health towards contract award.”
Construction is expected to start in the first half of this year, with the redevelopment creating up to 1,700 jobs at the peak of construction and in future healthcare opportunities.
The preferred bidder announcement follows a comprehensive tender process that attracted interest from some of Australia’s top construction firms and led to a shortlist of three consortia.
The redevelopment will deliver a new clinical services tower and main entrance, capacity for 120 more beds, new operating theatres and dedicated spaces for improved mental health and oncology services.
An expansion of women’s and children’s services will include new maternity, obstetrics, and paediatric wards, a women’s clinic, and a special care nursery.
The redevelopment will also deliver a multi-storey car park and two state-wide emergency department initiatives: a five-bed emergency department mental health, alcohol and other drugs hub, and a dedicated paediatric zone.
Overseen by the Victorian Health Building Authority, construction of the main works is expected to be complete in 2025.
