The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) has announced the appointment of Cathryn Greville as its new CEO, effective November 18, 2024.
This appointment comes at a crucial time when the role of women in the construction industry is increasingly significant.
Cathryn Greville brings a wealth of experience to her new position.
A qualified lawyer and company director, she has nearly two decades of experience in environmental, social, and governance areas, with a particular focus on the construction and built environment sectors.
Greville is widely recognised for her expertise in equity, diversity, and inclusion both in Australia and internationally.
Upon her appointment, Greville expressed her enthusiasm for the role, stating, “I am honoured and delighted to be taking on the role of CEO of NAWIC.
“The construction sector and the broader community have an incredible amount to gain by advancing gender representation and inclusion.”
Greville’s immediate priorities include leading crucial campaigns focused on:
- Increasing safety for women in the industry
- Improving flexibility for women pursuing construction careers
- Enhancing women’s skills in the sector
- Promoting behavioural and cultural change
One of the key challenges Greville will address is the issue of microaggressions in the construction industry.
This follows NAWIC and TDC Global’s recent report, The Not So Little Things Impacting Women in Construction, which highlighted the significant personal, professional, and financial impacts of such behaviours.
NAWIC Chair Jennifer Gillett expressed confidence in Greville’s leadership, stating: “With Cathryn’s leadership, I know NAWIC will enjoy and lead the journey toward an equitable and inclusive industry for all.”
As she steps into her new role, Greville will engage with key decision-makers across government and industry to address issues impacting the increasingly diverse construction sector.
Her experience in advocating for and advising businesses on shifting attitudes and addressing underrepresentation is expected to be invaluable in this endeavour.
The appointment of Cathryn Greville as CEO marks a significant step for NAWIC in its mission to promote and improve the construction industry by the advancement of women within it.
Her leadership is anticipated to drive transformational change and create a more inclusive environment for women in construction across Australia.
