The Western Australian government has announced a major step forward in the revitalisation of Perth’s Central Business District (CBD) with the selection of preferred proponents for three of the final Perth City Link lots.
This development is set to provide a significant boost to Perth’s long-term housing supply and contribute to the city’s economic diversification.
Oceania Capital Group has been named the preferred proponent for Lots 12 and 18 on Wellington Street.
Their preliminary concept includes a 32-storey build-to-rent residential tower with over 200 dwellings and a 26-storey hotel and short-stay apartment tower.
The development will also feature retail, hospitality, childcare, and recreational facilities in the shared lower levels.
Erben Place Pty Ltd has been selected for Lot 19 on Roe Street, proposing a 19-storey student accommodation facility adjacent to the new Edith Cowan University (ECU) City Campus.
This development is designed to house more than 1,100 students and will include ground-floor retail, food, and beverage options.
These developments are part of the larger Perth City Link project, which aims to reconnect the CBD with Northbridge by repurposing land created by sinking the railway and bus port.
The project has attracted significant interest from local, national, and international developers.
Premier Roger Cook emphasised the importance of this development, stating: “This is a significant step forward for the Perth City Link vision to connect the CBD with Northbridge through infill developments, which will ultimately provide a major boost to Perth’s long-term housing supply and diversifying economy.”
Lands Minister John Carey highlighted the project’s role in addressing Perth’s growing population and the need for inner-city living options.
He noted: “Western Australia’s population is now at three million people and we need to encourage more people to embrace inner-city living while providing the necessary housing and amenities to facilitate this growth.”
The Perth City Link project is part of a broader initiative to revitalise the Perth CBD, which includes the new ECU City campus and the redeveloped Perth Cultural Centre.
These developments are expected to bring thousands of new residents, students, and visitors to the area daily, providing a significant boost to local businesses and enhancing the city’s vibrancy.
The remaining Lot 11 will be subject to a future expression of interest process, depending on market conditions.
As this project progresses, it promises to transform Perth’s city centre, creating a more connected, vibrant, and livable urban environment for residents and visitors alike.
