Canberra’s very best homes and innovative commercial projects were unveiled in a glittering ceremony at the The Master Builders and Asset Construction Hire Excellence Awards on 6 September 2024 in front of more than 1,300 guests.
Master Builders ACT Acting CEO Ziad Zakout said: “We’re privileged to be able to continue hosting this event, to recognise and reward the outstanding achievements of our members and the building industry as a whole.
“With nearly 200 entries, the calibre of entries this year has been exceptionally high.”
Shaw Building Group took out the prestigious Project of the Year award, along with Project Displaying Technical Difficulty, with their incredible $5.6-million refurbishment of the medical imaging department at Canberra Hospital.
This highly challenging and technically complex project saw the transformation of an underused outdoor courtyard into a lead-lined scanning suite, control room, cannula bay, and holding bay, along with a complete revamp of the existing MRI department. Shaw Building Group showed outstanding skill and technical prowess to completely overhaul the department, all while keeping the surrounding areas of the hospital completely operational with minimal impact.
Zakout said: “This project achieved near-perfect scores from our judges. It is an incredible feat and is a huge boost for patient care at Canberra Hospital. It is the kind of legacy project that will benefit the Canberra community for years to come.”
The much-coveted House of the Year title went to sibling duo Jamey and Nathan Dutkiewicz of Brother Projects for their outstanding “Pavilion House” in Deakin, which also earned them the Custom Built/Project Home $2 million to $4 million award. To cap off a great year for the siblings, Nathan was also awarded 2024 Young Builder of the Year.
Brother Projects’ incredible Deakin custom home pushes design boundaries and has been exceptionally built to capture the client’s love of Canberra and its surrounds. With a modern geometric aesthetic, the four-bedroom family residence seamlessly blends Canberra’s stunning natural surroundings with contemporary design.
The Dutkiewicz brothers displayed incredible innovation throughout the project, incorporating tricky design elements and cleverly hidden modern features such as a solar system, underground water storage, and a lift shaft to deliver the ultimate in contemporary design and lifestyle. The house stands out as a geometric marvel, with a quality of construction that is truly commendable.
Zakout said: “Congratulations to Brother Projects on this exceptional build. Their wins across all three categories are extremely well-deserved and they have shown amazing skill and an ability to deliver excellent results for their client.”
“Recognising excellence in building encourages higher standards, and inspires builders to innovate and improve. This ultimately benefits the entire community by enhancing the quality of local infrastructure.”
“A huge congratulations to this year’s winners, finalists and entrants in what has been a truly outstanding year of entries.”
