AUSTRALIA — The Gold Coast is set to enhance its reputation as a hub for medical innovation with the announcement of the North Star Medical Centre of Excellence, a $120 million development by Trilogy Pty Ltd.
The 10-level state-of-the-art medical building will be located within the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct (GCHKP), further solidifying the area’s status as a leading destination for medical advancements.
The new facility will house the Gold Coast Transitional Care Centre (GCTCC) and join other esteemed research institutions in the precinct, including the Institute for Glycomics, Menzies Health Institute Queensland, and the Cities Research Institute.
This strategic positioning is expected to foster collaboration and accelerate the development of cutting-edge healthcare solutions.
Dr Alan Parnham, project lead and Chair of the GCTCC Board, emphasised the significance of the development: “The North Star Medical Centre of Excellence represents a pivotal investment in our healthcare infrastructure.
“We are committed to creating a supportive environment where medical professionals can thrive.”
A key feature of the centre will be its accommodation facilities, comprising 80 to 120 beds for out-of-hospital overnight stays, transitional care, and emergency accommodation for healthcare professionals.
This addition aims to support temporary healthcare needs and improve patient care outcomes.
Matthew Grbcic, Founder and Managing Director of MG Group Project Management, who will oversee the project for Trilogy Pty Ltd, stated: “The North Star Medical Centre of Excellence project is a purpose-built medical facility designed to provide a modern and efficient environment for medical services, research activities and patient care.”
The development is expected to create numerous job opportunities in healthcare, research, and support services, contributing to the local economy.
Dr Parnham added: “This facility isn’t just about healthcare — it’s about creating stable, long-term jobs in healthcare, research, and support services, helping to strengthen our local economy and benefit our community.”
The North Star Medical Centre of Excellence is designed to be an interconnected, environmentally friendly building that will facilitate scientific research and enable the translation of that research into life-saving drugs and devices.
It will also play a crucial role in the educational development of future healthcare professionals by offering practical training and placement opportunities for students.
As the Gold Coast continues to grow as a centre of medical excellence, the North Star Medical Centre of Excellence is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare in the region.
